Baby I can be your motivation…Literally because here are 5 things that help me crack on with work when I REALLY DON’T WANNA!
Here is the thing, we all lose motivation from time to time. So I thought I would share a few of the things that help me get back on the ball when procrastination rears it all too familiar head, so read on for my techniques and please do share yours too!
(What is funny is that I was even lacking the motivation to complete this post and you know what I did?.. I read this post lol)
- Take a deep breath
Well I do a little more than that :
Whenever I am feeling stressed or like I need a mini-reset I follow these steps and it is like a little reboot and helps your body release some tension as well as giving you (or me) a moment where your brain isn’t fuzzing.. Its the fuzzing sound in my brain when I become demotivated which is the absolute worse and this helps. This may sound mind numbingly simple but trust me! It works
2. Get a second opinion
We all have someone we trust to review our work, be it your sister or you partner (for me it a WhatsApp group that contains my closest mates)
This step is super helpful for when you feel as though you have reached capacity, for me that happens when I have to write something that is particularly long or when I am spell-checking. I can fall asleep spellchecking so I consult the besties with their fresh eyes to give my work a new lease of life
3. TAKE A BREAK
I usually decided to take a break right around the time I have HAD ENOUGH of trying to find another word for ‘and’ (lol) thats when I know I have reached the end of my tether. My breaks usually last between 5 & 15 mins and they involve me CLOSING my laptop and walking away from it. Im not gonna get all complicated and say work out during this time; eat an apple or cake or whatever just take a break.
4. Finish it anyway
Hear me out! The first draft of anything is usually a little bit trash, it is for me anyway. My advice is just do it, write the terrible post or complete the terrible project and then you know you can do it.. Now just to do it better next time around lol
I have a habit of writing lists and then not completing whats on the list and then getting annoyed at myself and that doesn’t help when it comes to trying to motivate yourself to start. I have read quite a lot of articles and research generally suggests that a positive mindset means for better productivity. The fact that you have already decided to start is good, so pat yourself on the back!
