I have been writing this blog for a while now and I think that it is time I start to show some love to the brands that I love (so much love ❤ ) I pride myself on only posting clothes that I actually wear and genuinely like and I am taking that one step further. Once a month I will be shining the spotlight on a label which has really caught my eye. Brand new, established, formal or casual wear it doesn’t matter.
So welcome to the first editionnnnnnnnnn
I believe I have made it clear just how much I love a good two piece here & here and today is no exception. I recently became aware of a brand which uses traditional African ankara to make on trend clothing.
As my name may suggest, I am half Nigerian and I have grown up wearing traditional Nigerian clothes to parties, wedding funerals and so on. When I turned around 16 that all stopped, my parents figured I was adult enough to make my own clothing choices and I definitely wasn’t complaining about that. A few years on and I have to admit I now realise it is a damned shame! Obviously the clothes I had pre- sixteen no longer fit and now I WANT to wear Ankara, I am proud of who I am and want to show that to the world. Not to mention the fabrics are pretty (lolz) So enter Dao London! a London (obvs) based brand which uses beautiful luxury fabric and creates eye catching designs.
I first became aware of Dao London when I was a guest judge at the Born To Model house (this is an online tv show which will be debuting this summer) and I have been obsessed ever since
Dao London have a website which you can find here. I know that the shop part of their site isn’t available yet (April 2015) They are a pretty new company ya see, but I know that it soon will be. On the site you can see more of the designs and links to their socials and stuff.
I have an older sister (I actually have four but that story is for another day) and she told me that she has a tailor who can create any design that she wants out of the fabric that she provides, which is sick. So I know that this isn’t a BRAND NEW idea however; a tailor could create the latest design from any brand, you could show a tailor a picture of Yonce’s latest outfit and they would probably be able to make it. I don’t want that, I want a brand that showcases its own designs and collections, who tell me what I should be wearing while providing great product.
I threw on some chunky boots and a crop both from New Look with this outfit. Kept my makeup and hair pretty neutral too. That is the thing with bold patterns; you have to show them the respect they command.. Too much and its Clownville for you
There you have it! Keep you eyes peeled for this months Spotlight brand: Dao London Mann I mean I love the stuff probably a little more than is appropriate. Check em out peoples! Stay happy ❤
Submit your brand to be under my spotlight.
